Fair Use Policy

Personal use can be generous, but AI-heavy systems still need guardrails against extreme cost, automation, resale, and abuse.

Why fair use exists

Notedge uses AI models, transcription, OCR, embeddings, storage, and source-fetching infrastructure. These features have real operating costs. Fair use keeps the product reliable and sustainable for everyone.

Beta usage guardrails

  • AI chat, summaries, OCR, transcription, embeddings, and bulk capture may be throttled or reviewed if usage is extreme compared with normal personal use.
  • Uploaded files must stay within the limits shown in the app. Current defaults are 20 MB for PDF/DOCX/TXT/Markdown, 50 pages for PDFs, and 10 MB for XLSX.
  • During launch, upload only files you trust and have permission to process. Notedge blocks macro-enabled Office files and does not execute uploaded files, but it is not a general malware-scanning service.
  • Notedge may temporarily pause expensive processing if it threatens service reliability, cost stability, or abuse controls.

Prohibited usage

  • Using bots, scripts, or automation to generate artificial capture, chat, upload, transcription, OCR, or embedding volume.
  • Sharing, reselling, or redistributing one personal account across multiple people.
  • Uploading content you do not have the right to store, process, or use.
  • Using Notedge for illegal, harmful, abusive, spam, malware, credential harvesting, or rights-infringing activity.
  • Attempting to bypass rate limits, security controls, source restrictions, or access checks.

What happens if usage is excessive

  • We may contact you to understand the use case and find a sustainable option.
  • We may throttle, pause, or limit specific AI-heavy features while reviewing the account.
  • We may suspend or terminate accounts used for abuse, resale, automation, or unlawful activity.

Usage controls

Notedge uses server-side monthly plan limits and short-window abuse throttles for expensive operations. These controls protect normal personal use while keeping capture, upload, transcription, OCR, and Ask features sustainable.
